On Saturday March 19th I played in the Star Wars Armada Store Championship Tournament held at Book Review in Rochester.
It was a fun time and nice to get in a day of playing Star Wars Armada. The Book Review guys .. well guy has been working hard on his store to create a space for holding pick up games and tournaments. That’s great to see because Rochester really needs that kind of store. The down side is that Book Review isn’t open in the evenings, but they’re considering it.
Anyway, just 4 people showed up so it was a small affair and we ended up doing 3 rounds so everyone got to play everyone. Now in defense of those that should have driven down from the twin cities it was snowing so I’m sure that put a damper on the numbers.
It made for a nice day of 3 games. I played a list of ISD and two Glads (one being Demo of course) with plenty of fighter support (Howlrunner, Dengar, Tie Advanced, Ties etc). It’s a decent Imperial list that I’ve been tuning a bit here and there but doesn’t have lots of games under it’s belt. Motti as my Admiral and away we go.
First game was against Nathan who I had faced up in the Twin cities in my very first tournament. He won then, pretty easily and this time around it was a bit closer but he still ended up winning.
Next was against Michael who would end up going on to win the store Championship. He ended up winning this one. He had 4 A-Wings that I just couldn’t take out. With all my fighter assets I would have thought I should have been able to but with cold dice it just wasn’t possible, OTOH squadrons weren’t putting on much pressure.
Last was Tim and I going at it. Tim had his heavy bomber fleet out with VSDs and a Glad. We did I think it was fleet ambush so we were in each other’s hair immediately. My squadron heavy build did really well. I formed a line of battle behind my squadrons and presented black range broadsides with the glad after the ISD flew by for it’s initial shots.
At the very end, with a lone VSD left that I just couldn’t take out, victory was on my side.
Brought home some Store Championship 2016 Range Rulers and a Raider alt art card which was quite nice. Also won a VSD on a roll of the dice as a prize.
Thanks to Rochester Book Review. Looking forward to doing a little more gaming there from time to time.
